Home to about 2,000 people, Jardines del Norte, Choloma, Honduras, is one of the poorer areas in the country. Most of the people live in poverty and even some in extreme poverty conditions. It’s located about 30 minutes from San Pedro Sula. Within Jardines del Norte, there is a desperate need to feed an average of 250 children every month during the regular year. Most children who manage to make it through sixth grade aren’t able to go to the next level of education because their parents can’t afford bus fare and school supplies.
Feed The Children has been providing support in Jardines del Norte for more than 20 years with a regular feeding program, plus educational and vocational support for children and their families. The community has made progress but there is still much work to be done. The new community center under construction will further our shared initiatives in Food and Nutrition, Water and Sanitation, Health and Education, and Livelihood and Development.
