The ATEAM puts together snack packs filled with food items to be given to kids who won’t have meals to eat over the weekend as well as providing backpacks and basic school supplies. This program has been successful for seven years now and the results are amazing! That certainly was the case as over 100 volunteers participated with us for our first annual 4Life service trip in Colombia. In two days, we built eight homes with the Catalina Muñoz Foundation. The families who will live in these homes have worked hard to obtain the land, and they also worked with us to build the houses. It was such a joy to get to know these beautiful families and see the excitement in their kids’ faces.

This event represents the culmination of a three-month, three-phase strategy to alleviate the suffering of children and families who were struck by tragedy when the storm made landfall in the early hours of September 20, 2017. 4Life has conducted business on the island through a network of independent distributors since 2000. Immediately following Hurricane Maria’s landfall, the company’s non-profit organization, Foundation 4Life®, launched a three-phase strategy to support storm victims. Phase 1 Between September 20 and October 1, Foundation 4Life mobilized its network in the contiguous United States, launched an international fundraising campaign, and collaborated with Puerto Rican author and philanthropist Laura Posada to deliver critical supplies via private jet. Phase 2 At the start of the second phase, San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz Soto was onsite to receive more than 6,000 pounds of emergency supplies. The initial aid was then transported by truck to four 4Life distribution points around the island. Upon its return to Florida, the jet transferred sick individuals who required immediate medical attention. Phase 3 Foundation 4Life chartered four jets and committed more than $500,000 in cash and product value, 25,000 pounds in emergency relief supplies, and 2,000 toys to the outreach effort. In commemoration of Three Kings’ Day, 4Life Founders David and Bianca Lisonbee, President and CEO Danny Lee, Vice Chairman of the Board Steve Tew, Vice President of Field Development for Spanish Markets Deborah Dixon, and Vice President of Service Catherine Larsen met with local distributors to distribute thousands of new toys, all purchased and donated by 4Life employees at Global Headquarters in Utah. 4Life has offices in 24 markets to serve a global network of independent distributors and their customers. Once these supplies made it to the island, they were taken by truck to four 4Life distribution sites. Bianca: “Initially, they were in desperate need of basic supplies—basic hygiene, nutrition, food, and clean water. We were able to utilize our distribution points that we already had set up in the country as centers where they could go and have a generator, they could get clean water, and they get instructions and support.” 4Life has a long history with Puerto Rico. Since 2000, independent distributors have built networks on the island. Bianca: “They really do feel like family members to us. When they were suffering so greatly and nothing could be done, members of our company from all over the world responded.” Watch David and Bianca’s appearance on ABC 4 Utah here. 4Life has offices in 24 markets to serve a global network of independent distributors and their customers. Foundation 4Life builds a legacy of service by fostering long-term, sustainable partnerships with families and communities around the world. Thank you, thank you, 4Life, for my new shoes! I will treasure them. I will help others someday like you are helping me now.” Stationery packs were also given to the children to encourage them to study hard and serve in the local community. After the donation presentation, International Diamond Fang, Xiu Lan, other distributors, 4Life employees, and school staff members taught the children how to play a fun game called boules. Foundation 4Life has donated over 150 pairs of shoes, books, baseballs, and boules equipment to the school since 2013. 4Life Taiwan continues making a difference to children in its country.

Building a House for Milady Bedoya

(October 2017) Earlier in the year, four Colombian distributors teamed up with a local nonprofit organization to build a home for a family in need. No one quit, even with all of the challenges we faced. We only had one goal—to finish the house. I will never forget the faces of the family members when they opened the door of their new home. The tears of happiness and expressions of gratitude were priceless!” 4Life Colombia Marketing and Commercial Manager Mónica Salas said, “Every moment I worked on the house was fantastic. My heart was full of energy and it was a very special day in my life. I learned how to build a house, but most importantly, I once again learned that with teamwork, you can fulfill people’s dreams. Mileidy and her family were so thankful and filled with joy. Thank you, 4Life, for allowing me to be a part of the pillar of service. Thank you, Bianca Lisonbee and Foundation 4Life, for giving me the opportunity to understand that what truly matters in life is love.” On October 28 during an International Networkers Team event and rally in Bogotá, Gold International Diamond Norma Rocha and International Diamonds Julieth Galeano, Abigail López, and Lorena Vega presented Colombia’s next service project—“Together, Building Homes” with the Catalina Muñoz Foundation. They raised more than $700 in a few hours! Their goal is to raise enough money by February 2018 to build at least two more homes. The launch of the project included a touching video message from 4Life Founder Bianca Lisonbee. Now, a grateful family has a roof over their heads because of distributors’ hard work, love, kindness, service, and friendship. Thousands of dollars and more than 20,000 pounds of supplies were graciously donated to 4Life family members impacted by hurricanes. Despite the tragedies, distributors and employees stepped up to help others. “Distributors saw needs and came together. Foundation 4Life jumped in and helped support their efforts,” said Vice President of Service Catherine Larsen. “In the end, it wasn’t about meals or the amount of money that was donated. It was about the kindness and courage that these distributors showed when they forgot their own needs and eagerly served their 4Life family members.” After Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston, Texas, 4Life employees donated, packaged, and shipped over 300 boxes of emergency supplies to provide relief to 4Life distributors and their families who lost everything. Diamond Giselly Grajales-Hurtado and other 4Life distributors coordinated delivery to 4Life family members in the region. When Hurricane Irma hit Florida, International Diamonds Veronica and Guillermo Ramirez promptly assessed the needs of distributors, bought food and water, and drove supplies to families whose homes didn’t have power. Veronica commented, “We are a team, not just to build our businesses but also to help each other in times of need.” Days after Hurricane Irma hit Florida, Mexico experienced a strong earthquake that devastated the central and southern areas of the country. Many 4Life distributors and employees were directly involved in providing service in the areas that were destroyed. Fortunately, all 4Life distributors in Mexico were safe and suffered only minor damage, if any damage at all, to their properties. Foundation 4Life immediately went to work after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico to determine specific distributor needs. Platinum International Diamonds Juan and Damaris Rosado and other 4Life leaders in Florida quickly gathered donations and, with the help of Convention 2016 Guest Speaker Laura Posada, transported them to Puerto Rico. Once supplies reached the island, Foundation 4Life and distributors arranged transportation to distribution points. On its return, the private jet transferred people who required immediate medical attention to the United States. Foundation 4Life made several more supply shipments, including one with 2,880 4Life Fortify® meals donated by Platinum International Diamonds Ray and Barbara Meurer, which helped the people of Corozal, Puerto Rico enjoy their first hot meal in weeks. Foundation 4Life also sent aid to distributors on the island of Saint Croix, who were in a similar situation to those on Puerto Rico. Critical supplies such as industrial tarps, water bottles, bug spray, and more were distributed in coordination with Presidential Diamond Troy Ortiz and other key leaders. Foundation 4Life donations will target relief efforts in Puerto Rico until the crisis period has passed. 4Life continues to match 100% of all donations, doubling the amount that benefits victims. You can help 4Life family members recover and rebuild by donating to Foundation 4Life. One hundred percent of your donations will directly benefit victims of Hurricane Maria.

First Foundation 4Life Legacy Center

(October 2017) Foundation 4Life partnered with SOS Children’s Villages to establish the first Foundation 4Life Legacy Center in Bogota, Colombia. The center opened its doors on July 26 after an open house, ribbon-cutting ceremony, and presentations by SOS Children’s Villages Colombia National Director Angela Rosales, Vice President of Service Catherine Larsen, Platinum International Diamond Yadira Olivo, Colombia General Manager Nao Lau, and one of the SOS Children’s Villages participants, Gabriela. SOS Children’s Villages is an international organization that builds families for orphaned, abandoned, and other vulnerable children across 135 countries, including Colombia. In doing so, the organization ensures every child has the support and care he or she needs to grow, thrive, and lead a fulfilling life. In Colombia, the work SOS Children’s Villages does is incredibly important. More than 18 million children live in Colombia, and almost a third of the population lives in poverty. 1 SOS Children’s Villages addresses their needs through 10 programs across the country that reach 15,000 children, young people, and family members. The Foundation 4Life Legacy Center is an excellent example of the great work being done to support the country’s most vulnerable communities. Catherine said, “At first, I thought this center was just classrooms full of computers, but once I met the children and the staff members, I realized that it’s so much more. This is a place for children with zero opportunities to come and flourish. The truly exciting part happens when those same children go on to help others. When children are strengthened, they strengthen others.” The center helps orphaned, abandoned, and vulnerable youth like Luis and Gabriela. Luis was moved from one institution to another until he finally arrived to SOS Colombia. There, he discovered a love for math, graduated from high school, and started attending college. He shares his appreciation for the opportunities he’s received by tutoring children at the Legacy Center and teaching high school courses. “All of the kids mentioned how much they love Luis,” Catherine commented. “He exemplifies why we created the Legacy Center. By completely changing his life, Luis can help others do the same.” Gabriela, who was unable to stay with her family after her mother passed away, struggled until she found SOS Children’s Villages. She discovered a passion for journalism and recently interviewed Colombia’s president, Juan Manuel Santos. Gabriela wants to help others by telling the stories of people in her community who are working to improve their lives. “My SOS Family has taught me to be better every day,” Gabriela said. “Because of them, I participated in the robotics and communications group, which allowed me to work with a team, challenge my mind, and develop skills for a professional life. Today, I am very happy and I am so thankful for the partnership between SOS Children's Villages and Foundation 4Life. They made all of this possible.” In the Legacy Center, thousands of children and young people will have access to opportunities that will help them realize their full potential. In addition, families at risk of falling apart will receive support that will help their families stay together. The support they will obtain will give them the tools and parenting skills to help raise their children with love, respect and security. The center itself has classrooms where youth learn marketable skills in communications and journalism, robotics, and mobile app development. In the Salón de Tecnología, youth learn to build and program robots. In the Salón de Actividades, families can attend classes to improve parenting abilities, learn life skills, and receive counseling. Children can also come with their parents to the Salón de Juegos para Niños to relax and enjoy themselves. “The real magic of the Legacy Center is what happens inside of the rooms,” Catherine said. “The staff members care so much about the kids and families. They see them for who they truly are—people with great potential who not only thrive on love but also thrive on loving others.” SOS Children’s Villages previously owned the building and renovated it with generous donations from Foundation 4Life and Platinum International Diamonds Yadira Olivo, Juan and Damaris Rosado, and Ángel Molina and Ivelisse López. “It’s great to contribute money, but we also need to participate in service projects,” Yadira said. “We need to see the faces, the hearts, and the smiles of children who not only need the monetary contribution but also the love, appreciation, and affection that we can provide for them.” The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a successful event, thanks to the support of 4Life Colombia staff members, Foundation 4Life representatives, SOS Children’s Villages Colombia staff members, and SOS Children’s Villages United States staff members. Other distributor leaders in attendance included Gold International Diamonds Giovanni and Sandra Perotti. Other 4Life employees in attendance included Colombia Logistics Manager Ángel Rincón and Colombia Marketing and Commercial Manager Mónica Salas. Foundation 4Life hopes to open more Legacy Centers across the world.

4Life Mexico Celebrates Education

(August 2017) Six children from SOS Children’s Villages communities in Mexico graduated from various grades. We hope to see these children achieve their dreams in the future with the help of Foundation 4Life contributions.” Other distributors in attendance included Gold International Diamonds Mas Ryandi and Kenny Kanita, Ahmad Kurnia Wibawa and Ratu Kotrunnada, and Nadzrul Salim and Nadirah Ahmad. 4Life Indonesia Director Hanif Harsawan and Indonesia Senior Manager Ramdony Alamsyah also attended the event.

Guadalupe School Students Make Great Progress

(May 2017) Guadalupe School in Salt Lake City, Utah provides educational opportunities for low-income families who speak English as a second language. Foundation 4Life has supported the preschool program at the school since 2008. Preschool is a critical period in a child’s educational and social progress, and children who come from non-English-speaking homes must overcome great hurdles. Guadalupe School tailors its curriculum to positively motivate both students and parents. Eighty three- and four-year-old students attend the preschool. Through the program, they’re reaching higher levels of confidence, learning new skills, and having fun. The efforts of teachers, assistants, and parents are yielding results that can be seen through individual stories. A preschool-age child was unmotivated in schoolwork, would not listen to instructions, and had a difficult time with transitions. The student was the youngest in the classroom and faced challenges being in a new classroom and with new teachers. After teachers and parents made a plan to help motivate the child, the student started to socialize with other students, stand in line for recess, go to the restroom without help, and interact well with other children. This type of improvement is a result of a teacher and parents who provide a team of support to best understand a child’s needs. A three-year-old student was very emotional and would cry for several minutes after getting off the school bus at school. With daily help from teachers and staff members, this student is now excited for school, greets teachers and classmates with a smile, and follows the school’s routine with ease. This child’s spunky and joyful personality now shines through. “Support from Foundation 4Life is vital to us,” commented Guadalupe School Development Director Princess Gutierrez. “Foundation 4Life’s meaningful donations have allowed us to make a positive impact on the trajectories of individual lives. Thank you for you continued support.”

Jardines del Norte—Ready to Soar

(May 2017) Jardines del Norte is a community of about 2,000 people in one of the poorer areas of Honduras. Six years ago, families in this community were desperately looking for help. Children were not attending school consistently. The community lacked access to proper sanitation and clean water. Community members had to carry water by hand for long distances. Many people obtained water from small springs that were unprotected and yielded contaminated water. During the dry season, they often didn’t have access to water at all. Children were malnourished. Parents in the community lived day by day, unsure what tomorrow would bring for their families. Access to education was minimal, and many children were illiterate. Families were searching for a chance to break out of poverty and create better opportunities for themselves and their children. Our love for the people in Jardines del Norte began in 2010 during an introductory visit. Through our partnership with Feed The Children, we established a relationship to help the community develop self-sustainability for years to come. Since 2011, we have seen hope sparkle in the eyes of the children and their parents. Citizens work together to create better opportunities for everyone. The daily interaction with Feed The Children mentors has created confidence and a sense of self-worth for citizens because they know that someone cares about them. The programs and opportunities provided by Foundation 4Life have propelled this community to where they are today. It’s an honor to see the joy on their faces each time they conquer personal challenges and position themselves for greater success. (February 2011) The snip of a pair of scissors sent this community soaring during the ribbon-cutting celebration for the Foundation 4Life community center. Children come each school day to receive warm meals and vital nutrition. Adults volunteer to serve meals to the children, and they also come for classes that help them gain greater self-reliance. One of the most critical components of the community center was the new clean water system. There is clean water for cooking, cleaning, and hand-washing. Families also come to the community center to collect water for their needs. Mothers attend classes to learn how to make baked goods, jewelry, piñatas, and Christmas decorations. Classes and workshops are free of charge and help build confidence, camaraderie, and accomplishment, giving the women new opportunities to generate income for their families. (April 2013) We helped construct bathrooms and hand-washing stations to improve hygiene and sanitation. Beyond the higher level of cleanliness, children no longer have to wait in long lines to use the single bathroom at the Marco Aurelio Soto School. Previously, children would walk home to use the bathroom, often not returning. With more bathrooms, children stay in school the entire day. (April 2013) Prior to Foundation 4Life involvement, there was an abundance of trash surrounding the community. Adults and children alike discarded trash in random places instead of properly disposing it. A community trash disposal and recycling program was made possible with the sponsorship of an incinerator in the community. Citizens now properly dispose of their garbage, and they have learned the value of recycling certain materials. The recycling program also offers a way for mothers to generate income for their families. They devote some of these funds to support the community center. (April 2013) A gardening class was introduced to the fourth and fifth grade students at the school. Our sponsorship of a beautiful garden area, complete with a watering system and sun shade, allows the students to learn about the value of growing food for sustainability. Kids learn responsibility and teamwork, while applying practical gardening skills. Responsibilities for the gardens include everything from planting to harvesting, with individual tasks shared among the students. Once harvested, food from the garden supplements the daily meals at the community center. The lessons learned have helped mothers in the community grow food for their families. The community garden has become another gathering place for children and adults to learn and take pride in providing for the next generation. (April 2015) Years into our sponsorship, there was a greater zeal for life and a deeper sense of hope for the future. This motivated more adults to send their children to school, and more children wanted to attend. With increased attendance, plus recognition of the school by local government agencies, it was necessary to expand the capacity of the school. Two additional classrooms with air conditioners were built for fourth and fifth grade students, including new desks and white boards, and a closet for the teacher to secure supplies. These classrooms allow more children to attend school close to home, which is a major factor in continuing their education. Students from the Foundation 4Life-sponsored Productive Carpentry School in Omoa, a nearby city, made the desks for the new classrooms. (August 2016) The pinnacle of our sponsorship connected the community to the world! A brand-new computer lab at the school was built so that children and adults could learn valuable computer skills and be in touch with the rest of the world through the internet. Older students, especially those in junior high and high school, come to the lab to complete their homework. Previously, students couldn’t complete assignments. They didn’t have the same opportunities as other kids; they felt discouraged by their inability to do the homework; and they often stopped going to school to avoid embarrassment. The computer lab has over 30 computers, a secure and tightly monitored internet connection, a climate-controlled environment to protect the equipment from the extreme heat and humidity, and a teacher who guides the students. Mothers also use the computers to track their home-based businesses, access the internet to sell the goods they hand-make, and help their children with homework. In addition to all of these new programs, Foundation 4Life provided backpacks and school uniforms to the neediest children each school year. The Foundation also provided transportation scholarships to the older children who attend school outside the community. Funding also provided nutrition, vitamins, and de-worming medicine to support children's health and give them greater opportunities to stay in school. Choloma Mayor Leopoldo Eugenio Crivelli Durvant stated: “Jardines del Norte is ready! As a mother hen must know when to let her chicks fly, it is time for Jardines del Norte to use the tools and lessons they have received from Feed The Children and Foundation 4Life to fly on their own. Today, Jardines del Norte is a strong community. Together, the families are ready to carry forth all they have learned to continue building prosperity for generations to come.” Together with Feed The Children, Foundation 4Life has provided the people of Jardines del Norte with resources, tools and knowledge to help them achieve a level of self-reliance. It has been a team effort to elevate the community to new heights over the past six years. Foundation 4Life has truly built a legacy of service in Jardines del Norte, and is ready to make its mark in new areas of the world!

4Life Spain Supports the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

(April 2017) For the past nine years, 4Life Spain has supported the Spanish Federation of Cystic Fibrosis. He often struggled with expressing his feelings and would constantly chew on his clothing. This year has been hard for him, as he’s faced a new classroom, new teachers, and new students. However, he now expresses his feelings through words instead of crying. He shows interest in learning, participates in discussions, and makes friends. He no longer chews on his clothing and seems more confident when interacting with others. At the beginning of the year, another three-year old student was shy and mostly played alone. With a main language of Spanish and very limited English skills, it was difficult for him to make friends and participate in classroom activities. Now, he can ask and answer questions in English, and he has become more cooperative during playtime and classroom activities. He’s more attentive to classroom rules and acts more cheerful at school. Two other students who were new to the preschool this year had a difficult time making friends. With the help of their teachers, they are very happy in the classroom and have made new friends. Also, they participate in small and large group activities. They invite others to play with them, and they come to school every day with big smiles on their faces. Early childhood education is a critical component to long-term academic success, especially for American children who speak English as a second language. Foundation 4Life values its sponsorship with the Guadalupe School because of the positive role the school plays in its community. The early childhood program sponsorship ensures that children get a proper start to their education. Often, young students motivate their parents to learn English and become more involved in their community.
